Fred Gulley III
Fred Gulley III became a basketball standout during his high school years at Fayetteville High School. His outstanding performances earned him numerous accolades, including being named Mr. Basketball for the state of Arkansas in his senior year and receiving Gatorade Player of the Year honors in both his junior and senior seasons. Fred led Fayetteville High to an undefeated season and a state championship as a senior, and was selected as a Reebok All-American. He also earned First Team All-State honors in his sophomore, junior, and senior years, along with back-to-back regional championships in his 8th and 9th grades, and was named the KURM Basketball Dream Team Player of the Year.
Throughout his high school career, Fred's stats were a testament to his dominance on the court. In his sophomore year, he averaged 11 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. His junior year saw a remarkable rise in his stats with 16.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.4 steals per game. During his senior season, Fred's leadership on both ends of the court played a key role in his team's undefeated run to a state championship.
Fred's high school success set the stage for a stellar collegiate career. As a true freshman at Oklahoma State University, he made an immediate impact, starting at point guard and helping the Cowboys to the NCAA Tournament, including a notable win against a number one-ranked Kansas team. After transferring to the University of Arkansas, Fred continued to excel, setting the all-time program record for assist-to-turnover ratio with an impressive 4.06. Fred Gulley’s combination of athletic skill, leadership, and character continues to inspire, and his legacy in both high school and collegiate basketball remains an unforgettable chapter in Fayetteville and Arkansas basketball history.
